Other Elfpack Contests

This is a competition for those of you with web-pages, and especially professional webmasters. The goal is to have the highest rating web-page that points to Elfpack and the prize is that you will get a link from <URL:start.html> to your web-page for an entire year.

Rules

§ 1 Your webpage should come as high up as possible on http://www.google.com/search?as_lq=www.elfpack.com on the 2006-12-31 when [Hedda] looks at it.

§2 Restrictions of the page. The page must not:
a) Be an Heddate-site page or an Elfwood page.
b) Be racist, contain illegal material or otherwise be something that I refuse to link to from Mainstuff. Note: I will accept pages that are describing how much Elfpack sucks.

§3 The prize will be a link from the calendar-note about this competition for year 2007. That link will be there for the whole of 2007 in it's entirety! There will also be links from this page to all the previous winners as long as Elfpack is running, and here you can also add a short note about what the page is. This is very valuable for your site!

The second and third place will also get links from this page.

§4 One page can only win if it hasn't won the last 5 years. "Similar" pages will also be excluded. That includes all personal pages of one person, different main pages on the same site (that is: If someone wins with a MySpace address, then a MySpace address can win next year too, but www.xnetz.com/kalisoniclilo/ can't win if www.xnetz.com has won before, because these pages both belong to [Hedda]) and other attempts to go around this rule.

§5 I'll do my best to find the winners, but please feel free to give me a hint if (and only if!) your page is high up in the search. Non-Elfpacker pages that happen to get high up in the search will be considered as not part of the competition, at least until they come here and tell me that they want to compete.

Hints

So how do you make your page? Well, first you have to have a web-page that Google can read (Like a MySpace-page, a normal website or something like that) and find. Google will find any page that you've linked to from a page that Google has read. And then, of course, you have to have a link to www.elfpack.com
If you write in HTML, this is the code: <a href="http://www.elfpack.com/">www.elfpack.com</a>

After doing that, you have to wait and wait and wait... It takes at least 2-4 weeks before Google's computers are updated generally speaking.

But to get first, you have to have a high rating on your page. One way to get a good rating is to make the page very popular so that many people link to it in their blogs.

Please note that Google has some tricks to ignore things like 400 links that suddenly appear, and things like that can actually damage your rating, at least for a while. It's also better to have links from pages with high ratings and it depends on where on the page the link is.

Current status 2006

Currently (2006-06-07) there are no valid pages in the search! The first page is made by [Hedda] and he's of course not allowed in this competition:
www.xnetz.com/kalisoniclilo/

Update 2006-06-27 Still no valid pages are found. It might take time for Google to update its caches, so you should start linking now even if it's 6 months left.

http://search.msn.se/ gives this:
http://foxchild.spaces.msn.com/
http://thenorevardstruelegacy.spaces.msn.com/
http://www.freewebs.com/evankid/
and much more.

Update 2006-07-15 One link found, but that didn't have any link to Elfpack. I conclude that Google's link-to-search isn't working, or working at 5% or so.

Winners 2006-12-31

Winner: http://vampirefreaks.com/u/Lavender-Chaos-Angel [Sonya Blue]
Follow ups:

http://teenagers-world.tripod.com/id2.html (Unknown)
http://www.freewebs.com/gashnau/ (Also unknown)

Winners 2007-12-31!!!

http://en.netlog.com/Carny_ belonging to [Fairyland Fanfare] is the only page I can find and I had to do a search for "Elfpack site:www.elfpack.com" on search.live.com to find it as it's not a normal link straight to Elfpack. It's never the less a working link, so she'll win.

Searching for "www.elfpack.com" get some working links however, so these will be secondary winners:
http://www.glee.com/Skittles254/ Is that [Skittles 254]?
http://www.truechristian.com/askpastorjim1105b.html [Nekko fox] sent a nice mail to the pastor... Good work including the link!

2007-01-01 [The Darkest Star.]: Did you use this? http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=link%3Awww.elfpack.com&btnG=Google+Search&meta= I think that was what [Hedda] was using, and, excluding the Heddate sites, I get the same results as he does...

2007-01-01 [FireGypsy]: I have tried that, and before, nothing but Elfpack sites came up. So it wasn't looking for sites linked to elfpack, it was finding all elfpack pages. If you type www.elfpack.com in the search bar and nothing else, it WILL find sites that have a link to elfpack on it. Which is where mine is located.

2007-01-02 [Hedda]: Oh, you mean on http://vampirefreaks.com/u/Burnouthappy

But that link doesn't point to Elfpack! It goes to a non-existing user "www.elfpack.com" on Vampirefreaks.

You have to write "http://" to make it correct. Like this:

<a href="http://www.elfpack.com/">www.elfpack.com</a>

Otherwise the URI will point to the corrent page + www.elfpack.com. Like this bad link: <URI:www.elfpack.com>

2007-01-02 [FireGypsy]: O_o I did lol! I placed it in the URL section of my profile. Just like that http://www.elfpack.com.

2007-01-02 [Hedda]: No you didn't! The link you have on http://vampirefreaks.com/u/Burnouthappy doesn't point to Elfpack. Click on it and you'll see!

2007-01-02 [FireGypsy]: I did!!

2007-01-02 [FireGypsy]: No not that one!!! The links at the WAY bottom! I never noticed that one lol! There are TWO links to elfpack at the bottom of the page ^_^

2007-01-02 [Hedda]: Oh, but the other one points to http://elfpack.com/member.html?membernr=1621 and not to www.elfpack.com so it's not strange that it doesn't show either.

2007-01-02 [Hedda]: But now the www.elfpack.com links work just fine <img:shadN-gif.gif>

2007-01-02 [FireGypsy]: Yeah, so now there are TWO links to elfpack on my page, and then one that directs to my house lol! ^_^

2007-01-17 [tazz]: is there some one with this

2007-01-17 [FireGypsy]: What?

2007-01-17 [tazz]: this contest

2007-01-17 [FireGypsy]: What do you mean is there someone with this contest?

2007-01-17 [tazz]: sory i ment help me with this

2007-01-17 [FireGypsy]: Oohh! You need an outsite website to link Elfpack to.

2007-01-17 [tazz]: yes the onely thing i could think of was Yahoo or Yahoo360 but i dont know how

2007-01-17 [FireGypsy]: Well, I dont know about those. Do you have a myspace? All you need to do is put an <a href=www.elfpack.com>www.elfpack.com</a> somewhere on the website.

2007-01-17 [tazz]: thank you

2007-01-17 [FireGypsy]: No problem ^_^

2007-01-17 [tazz]: it will tack a little wial but it will get dun
